Research interests

Daryl is presently a PhD candidate at Royal Holloway College, University of London. His research interrogates the ways in which the Welsh working class have been constructed in film and TV, This research has fed into a number of publications. Including his pending publication which considers the problem filmmakers had during the depression in constructing a ‘Celtic’ nation out of an overwhelmingly industrial Wales.His other research interests are in comedy and national/class identity – in particular the function of the sitcom and more recently in the form of the 3 minute pop video and its convergence with the codes of cinema (using the example of the recent work of David Bowie).

Teaching interests

Daryl is a Senior Lecturer in Film Studies and Module Leader on the following: FV1S08 / Silent Cinema; FV1S10/ British Cinema; FV2S12 /TV Genres; FV2S10/ European Cinema (Central and Eastern); FV3S11/ Cult Cinema. Daryl is also part of the team that delivers the following: FV1S11/ Academic and Professional Skills; FV2S16, Film Symposium and FV3D13 / Film Studies Dissertation.
