Celia Jackson is a Senior Lecturer in Photography who has lived in Wales for half her life. She began her creative studies almost 30 years ago, and since then has been involved with lens-based practice and the use of text in the broadest possible terms, from pinhole photography through drawing, collage, artist’s books and creative writing about art and photography. Working at Cardiff (ATRiuM), Celia has taught mainly at undergraduate level in Documentary Photography and in Photography for Fashion and Advertising, of which she was Course Leader for four years. She views teaching as an endlessly rewarding activity and one with which she continues to develop her skills and understanding on a daily basis. It is her firm belief that the most inspiring and memorable teaching is characterised by a whole-hearted approach on the part of staff, enhanced by emotional intelligence and a generosity of spirit. In July 2015 she achieved recognition as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and in her spare time enjoys baking and reading, particularly American and Canadian fiction. She is also a long-distance runner. Celia Jackson has exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally, and has co-ordinated a number of collaborative photography projects as well as producing work to commission for others. She has almost 26 years’ experience of teaching students from diverse backgrounds and of varying abilities, in environments from community projects and workshops through secondary school ‘taster days’, to undergraduate and postgraduate lectures and seminars. She has a particular interest in preparing students to meet the expectations of employers in the Creative Industries by means of curriculum development (in terms of transferable skills/ employability) and collaborative live brief projects in partnership with external clients.
