Personal profile

Research interests

Community Health and Care Services focusses on the improvement of services in the community, including services in statutory health and social care, primary care, third sector and independent sector. I have developed a particular interest in integration, family resilience and social prescribing www.wsspr.wales . This originates from my years of working in health and social care services prior to my academic career.

I am a registered nurse (adults) and chair of Age Cymru Gwent board of trustees.

I hold a number of leadership roles including:

  • Associate Director of PRIME Centre Wales leading the team at the University of South Wales and our work package ‘Care closer to Communities’.
  • Director of the Wales School for Social Prescribing Research (WSSPR).
  • Co-applicant (academic lead) for the new Torfaen NIHR Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC).
My research expertise lies within qualitative methodologies and mixed methods including integrated consensus methods such as Group Concept Mapping (GroupWisdom trained facilitator by Dr Mary Kane in 2014), Realist Evaluation (trained by Dr Geoff Wong 2017), Phenomenology and Action Research.
