Research interests

I pursue an individual practice in painting and exhibit regularly. I have experience as a practising artist working in the public realm, particularly Arts in Health, and was engaged as Artist in Residence for Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust for 11 years, following this with a residency at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant.

Current Research Activity

I am actively pursuing research, which is located in my work as a painter, both within personal practice and the public realm. I am currently studying for a PhD at University of the West of England under the joint supervision of Dr Iain Biggs, Department of Art and Design and Professor Norma Daykin, Department of Health and Applied Social Sciences. I am interested in the discourses around public and private arts practices, specifically the relationship between artists’ personal practice and their practice within healthcare settings. I aim to undertake an in-depth interrogation of this multiplicity of practice within my own work and that of others. The PhD will discuss the notion of a wagered modification in terms of self ‘narrative identity’ and will entail completing and exhibiting studio work as well as commissioned art works within healthcare settings.
