Dr Carl Jones research spans the full autonomy stack for physical robotic platforms, with a particular focus on edge AI, stereo vision, and energy-efficient control. He deploys real-time depth estimation and object recognition on embedded hardware including the Hailo-8/10H NPU, Google Coral Edge TPU, and Sony IMX500 (Jones et al., 2025). His work on reinforcement learning for quadruped and manipulator robots uses simulation environments as a development pathway for sim-to-real transfer to physical platforms.
Dr Carl Jones is co-founder and Technical Lead of Photometrix, a USW spin-out that successfully commercialised a stereo 3D measurement system licensed to Quantificare, demonstrating translation of research into real-world industrial adoption.
