Personal profile

Research interests

I have worked in the field of professional education and learning for over twenty years. During that time, I have worked in the private sector, NHS (public health policy), further education and higher education. My PhD research examined healthcare improvement projects in medical education using actor-network theory and ethnographic approaches, and I have published a book based on my research entitled Engaging with actor-network theory as a methodology in education research. I am first author for a publication that was published in the BMJ, entitled Mobilising or standing still? A narrative review of Surgical Safety Checklist knowledge as developed in 25 highly cited papers from 2009 to 2016. My research interests include actor-network theory in education contexts, and I am currently researching the notion of resilience from a sociomaterial perspective.

Supervision

I am currently supervising the following PhD students:

Thomas Gregory (Investigating teacher workload and wellbeing)

Yasmeen Multani (Exploring Autistic children’s play through an Autistic lens: developing an alternative narrative of play through lively stories)

John Whitcher (Is the current regulatory framework, educational policy, and delivery of Access to Higher Education in Wales suitable for the demands of the 21st century?)
