My specialist research interests are principally in conservation genetics and evolutionary genomics, however I am also actively engaged in a wide range of research related to botany, palynology, and pollinators, and also visual science communication including scientific illustration.
I currently have research students working on projects related the analysis of Lichen populations in South Wales, Conservation Genetics of the Skomer Vole, and Genetics & Cell Culture of Pillwort. I am open to research in any subject related to British flora and fauna.
I am a Fellow of the Linnaean Society of London, and a Fellow of Advance HE (FHEA).
I have worked in Higher Education since 2005, and have been a lecturer at the University of South Wales since 2017. Between 2018 and 2022 I was the course leader for the BSc in Natural history and from 2022 I have been the Course Leader for the MSc Wildlife and Conservation Management - University of South Wales (Please do contact me if you have any queries about the course.)
As a lecturer I focus on ensuring critical experiential learning opportunities in our courses, aiming to provide my students with a wide range of practical skills and knowledge to support our students in their academic and personal development.
I currently teach across several undergraduate courses and on the postgraduate MSc course at USW.
I teach on a wide range of subjects relating to wildlife conservation and biology, including Conservation Genetics, Population Ecology, Wildlife Surveying, Habitat Surveying, Microscopy, Entomology and Botany.
In addition to my specialist areas of teaching I am also a professional scientific illustrator, specialising in Botanical illustration and Natural History Illustration.
I am a Fellow of the Society of Botanical Illustrators and member of the Association of Botanical Artists. I am also a member of the Wales Society of Botanical Illustrators. I have won several medals and awards for Botanical illustration, and exhibited artworks in internationally reknowned exhibitions in professional galleries.
