Mathematical Sciences Research Group
The Mathematical Sciences Research Group is divided into three key themes: Algebra and Combinatorics; Data Science and Industrial Mathematics; and Computational Modelling. The group collaborates with a variety of industrial partners including NASA, Deutscher Wetterdienst (the German Meteorological Service), Supercomputing Wales, Fujitsu and TATA Steel.
The Hypermedia Research Group has been active in the area of intelligent hypermedia systems since 1991. It focuses on applied research themes relating to Knowledge Organisation Systems, Semantic Web Technologies, the relationship between minority languages and Information Technology. Collaborating stakeholder organisations include the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales, Historic England, Historic Environment Scotland, and the Archaeology Data Service.
Geographical Information Systems Research Unit
Established for more than thirty years, the GIS Research Unit conducts impactful research into geographical accessibility modelling; landscape visualisation, spatial data generalisation, population estimation and small-area modelling; automated cartographic design, GIS-based optimisation techniques; ethical surveillance; digital surface modelling; and remote sensing including UAV surveying and mapping.
The Cyber Security Research Group
The Cyber Security Research Group is interested in the interplay between situational awareness, computer networks, computer forensics and vulnerability development and the creation of a single integrated approach to computer network defence and computer forensics via the development of tools and techniques that support information sharing.
Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Paradigms
Research focuses on branches of computer science that relate to system modelling, security, simulation, imagery, virtual reality, visualisation and complex problem solving relating to algorithms, data-structures and system dynamics.
