DescriptionUSW has launched a new mentoring network designed to support women from minority ethnic communities to overcome microaggressions, stereotyping, and systemic barriers to success.
Empowering Futures, led by Dr Shehla Khan, Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management and a member of the Business Research and Innovation Group (RIG), was launched yesterday (Thursday 12 June) at the Temple of Peace in Cardiff.
The network provides women with access to trusted mentors who can offer encouragement, guidance, and advocacy, helping them to navigate their personal and professional journeys with confidence.
Funded by the Medr Civic Activity Fund, Empowering Futures is a collaboration with the Welsh Government’s Wales Anti-Racist Action Plan team, Cardiff and Vale College, Cardiff University, EMWWAA (Ethnic Minority Welsh Women Achievement Association), EYST (Ethnic Youth Support Team) and Swansea University.
Dr Khan said: “Our launch event featured inspiring and honest stories that reflected the lived experiences of many women in Wales today, highlighting the urgent need for supportive networks that amplify voices, break down barriers, and enable individuals to thrive.
“Empowering Futures is a clear example of how civic partnerships can create meaningful, lasting change – driving forward equity, inclusion, and opportunity for all.”
