Description
Every animation student grows up with 'The Animator's Survival Kit', the rulebook on how one should and should not animate. The hype around its 12 principles, and the many other rules to follow, give birth to much self-doubt: "If I can't draw proper walk cycles, if I don't do figure drawing every day, if I listen to music while animating...then how dare I call myself a True Animator?!" Those are just a few questions that keep animators awake in bed at night all around the world. As much as we appreciate its teachings, we think the time has come to question how the book is treated as the Holy Grail of Animation. Why would we restrict an art form that's so free in its nature? Do you really have to know the rules in order to break them? And perhaps more importantly, why do so many cool rebel animators keep hitting themselves on the head (psychologically speaking, of course) about not fully living The Truths from this bible?! Let's explore its legacy and the self-doubt that can come with it.'
