The project investigated the use of Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) services to improve rural public transport and accessibility. The first Bwcabus pilot was introduced in August 2009. Bwcabus is a demand responsive flexible local public transport service. The service is tailored to the needs of the passengers by operating in response to pre-booked journey requests.
USW has played a key role is assisting Carmarthenshire with the Bwcabus project. This support has included taking a leading role in the preparation of the business plans upon which European funding and Welsh Government match funding have been secured. USW also leads on providing technology solutions including building the Bwcabus scheduling system.
