A Pilot Study Exploring Autistic Young People's Play Through Lively Stories

Activity: Talk or presentationOral presentation

Description

I presented my PhD pilot study featuring an innovative methodology as an Autistic lively ethnographer, introducing a strengths-based observation method designed to support educators in recognising and nurturing the relational aspects of Autistic children's play. The significance of this pilot study lies in its challenge to deficit narratives by demonstrating that Autistic children's play is sophisticated, responsive, and relationally rich. This research contributes to a more nuanced understanding of Autistic children's social engagement and provides practical tools for educational practitioners to better support their development.
