These utilitarian stacks, defying the decorative, are an evolution of sculptural forms created for the series ‘Kitchen Storeys’ that continue to explore modern and brutalist construction, questioning the relationship between food and architecture, in a synthesis of form and function.

The purpose and structure of each stacked tower makes a visual and metaphorical reference to the stark architectural buildings that inspire. A parallel is drawn between the crafting of ceramic and concrete materials, the domestic and the monumental, and as the stacks are dismantled, the revealing of particular foods gives further specific evidence of the relationship between form and function.

The utopian ideology that underpins many of these architectural forms is reflected in the rituals that surround the sharing of food, intimate meals, dinner parties and celebratory events, where opportunities are created for storytelling, discussion and debate, enriching the spaces we live and work in.
