This paper highlights the increasing spatial resolution at which information relating to individuals and households may be georeferenced in the UK. The availability of locations of individual properties to sub-metre precision as a result of the creation of Ordnance Survey's ADDRESS-POINT™ product offers significant benefits to planners in the UK; two examples are presented for the City of Cardiff. Managing address-based data forms a crucial element of GIS strategies in local government and this work has drawn attention to the importance of the standards of address referencing which will be needed.
