Crynodeb
Consent to treatment or care is a common albeit complex factor in nursing practice. Over the past few years, consent laws have been strengthened to provide greater recognition of patient autonomy. This has meant that there is now more of an onus placed upon the nurse to understand how consent is obtained from patients, what makes consent valid, and how to continue treatment when a patient is unable to give consent. This article explores some of the legal considerations required by the nurse when seeking consent to treatment from a patient.
