Universities are a unique setting with potential to advocate, enable and mediate change in public health. They are hubs of knowledge, creativity, skills development and research that can be utilized in the challenge of improving population health. Universities are particularly well placed to promote health not only of the staff and students within them, but the local and global communities in which they are situated. This presentation considers the strategies that one UK university utilizes to influence public health through both outreach and on campus activities. It will give examples of university wide approaches and small classroom based initiatives that aim to influence community health locally, nationally and internationally.
