Crynodeb

Fluid balance relates to the balance of fluid input and output in the body. If fluid volume fluctuates by even a small percentage, there can be adverse consequences for the individual. Careful and accurate monitoring of fluid balance is an important aspect of the nursing practices in which healthcare assistants are involved. This article provides an overview of the mechanisms of fluid intake and output in the body and the implications of dehydration and overhydration. The assessment of fluid balance and use of fluid balance charts is also discussed.
