Later that year, Iordanova obtained a visa to live and work in the US legally, restarting her life as an immigrant dance artist and pedagogue. Three years later she remarried and as a result, became an American citizen. Choreographing numerous dance projects and teaching dance across the four boroughs of NYC along with five prominent dance departments in New York State, she established a dance school for Bulgarian-American children. She also created a Bulgarian folk dance company for adults and produced an international folk-dance festival to collaborate with the intercultural dance community in NYC. Several times she was funded by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, and recently received a second Mayoral Proclamation for her artistic work and service to the NYC community-at-large.

N2 - The 27th ADTA International Panel explored the journeys of dance/movement therapists who have experienced both the realities and challenges of the immigrant experience: learning a new language, leaving a familiar culture, uprooting families, leaving friends, and becoming a member of a new community. Nine panelists offered a verbal description of their unique stories which were accompanied by videos demonstrating their personal dance/movement expressions. By listening and observing, we had the valuable opportunity to see the resilience of adaptation and acclimation that is inherent in dance/movement therapists from around the world. The following are abridged and edited versions of the panel presentations which have been modified to provide an overview of the panel.
