Crynodeb

In 2014 a report was completed for ABUHB titled: Mental Health Service User Involvement in Blaenau Gwent: Pilot Research Report (Fothergill et al. 2014). This publication reported on the findings from the primary aim of a research project conducted into service user involvement in Blaenau Gwent. Funding was obtained for this study from the Mental Health Act Implementation Group (MHAIPG). This current report sets out the findings from the secondary aim of that research. The MHAIG agreed additional questions that the research team would ask service users following the focus groups or individual interview, the format used was a short questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of four questions with space left for comments to be made to explain each answer. Completion of these questions was voluntary. Findings indicated a lack of awareness concerning alternative treatments to medication and the purpose of Community Treatment Orders (CTOs) amongst the participants and highlighted both negative and positive experiences of being sectioned under the Mental Health Act (2007).
