Everyone at some time or other will be a patient, from this perspective therefore, it is important to know what to expect from a treatment. One benefit knowing what to expect would be that of 'quality assurance'. If the patient gets what they expect, or has confirmed what they have been told by a perceived authority figure (ie GP, Consultant or informed friend), the resultant confirmation of the practitioner's ability will facilitate compliance as well as any associated placebo effect.
