N2 - Non-traditional security (NTS) has been a prominent idea both within and outside of academia. It arose from the realization that security issues extend beyond military threats and has become a critical analytical tool, particularly in research (Maier-Knapp 2015). Food, health, environmental, personal, communal, and political security are the seven primary security requirements that the United Nations (UN) defined as constituting NTS in a study on human development (Cui and Buzan 2016). Over time, more security concerns have been raised, including corruption, resource conflicts, diseases, and pandemics.
