Non-traditional security (NTS) has been a prominent idea both within and outside of academia. It arose from the realization that security issues extend beyond military threats and has become a critical analytical tool, particularly in research (Maier-Knapp 2015). Food, health, environmental, personal, communal, and political security are the seven primary security requirements that the United Nations (UN) defined as constituting NTS in a study on human development (Cui and Buzan 2016). Over time, more security concerns have been raised, including corruption, resource conflicts, diseases, and pandemics. NTS concerns are difficulties that limit human well-being that are international in their emergence, conceptualization, and manifestation (Caballero-Anthony 2015).
