Crynodeb

A method for monitoring biological processes such as biomass activity or ripening/digestion processes comprises the steps of: selecting a sample of a cell suspension or biological tissue, using a magnetic induction spectroscopy system to measure the conductivity of the sample, thereby obtaining a first conductivity measurement, obtaining a second conductivity measurement of the same or a different sample of the suspension or tissue, comparing the first and second conductivity measurements in order to provide an indication of the activity of the biomass or tissue sample. Apparatus comprises an excitation coil 110 operable at plural frequencies and a reference coil 114 both able to generate a magnetic field in a sample, and a detection coil 112 to detect said field in the sample.
