Crynodeb

This poster explores of the impact of GIM training on the personal, pedagogical and clinical lives of a music therapist midway through the GIM training. Using her own reflections as well as those of other students from her training group, the student will identify those areas in which GIM impacts student practitioners experiences in the areas identified above. Relevant literature in the area of GIM such as Hyun Bae (2010), Beck (2012) and Trondalen (2014) will be utilised. Although there is limited writing to date on this subject, the above papers would seem to suggest a rich area for exploration exists. At the present time, GIM therapists are few in number in the UK. It may be that explication of the GIM training process together with information as to its impact on practice may stimulate motivation for therapists to train in GIM, motivation to train (Tharenou 2001) being a prime indication of successful completion of training activity in general.
The paper will discuss the authors' vision as to how the GIM training enriches her practice and life as well as discussing challenges faced by students. The broader canvass for GIM in the UK will also be touched on using this framework.
