Wales has very few site-specific medieval collections of miracle stories. However, imagery in some of the poems to the shrine of the Virgin Mary in Penrhys suggests that there was a collection of stories of miracles at the shrine, stories sufficiently well-known that the poets could allude to them rather than giving details. The stories focus on the statue rather than the well, suggesting that there may have been an attempt by the monastic custodians of the shrine to shift devotion away from the well and towards the statue.
