Mobile technologies are changing the way we engage and interact with information and the way we learn. This paper explores the ebook technologies, particularly, the new relationships and interactions they afford and how these can be harnessed to
enhance the learning experiences of first year university students. The paper highlights the importance of the user experience – engagement and interaction – in relation to the need for students to ‘invest something of themselves’ in the learning process. The focus of the paper is on the design, development and evaluation of an interactive ibook application on the subject of computer architecture. Results suggest that the ibook, presented here as a complex and multi-facetted learning space, has the potential to tackle some of the documented difficulties students are
experiencing with the subject and enhance their learning experience.
