This paper investigates methods to monitor and predict the fracture point of a composite material. A solution for users of hockey sticks is developed via experimental research. Samples of continuous carbon fibre laminates with an epoxy resin were produced and tested with a Zwick Z010 machine to perform a three-point bend test and determine the fracture point and behaviour. Sample groups of 4-ply and 7-ply were tested to draw a comparison and suggest appropriate application within the hockey stick. Testing criteria was varied to determine an appropriate comparison criterion between the sample groups and the ductility and stiffness properties were analysed. Finally, this investigation provided further data points for future material selection reference.
