This paper examines the BBC Wales television history programme, Coal House, in order to consider how place and belonging are represented and negotiated in contemporary media culture. The presentation focuses on the gendering of place; the relationship between language and place as a cultural site of identity; and on historicising place especially in relation to questions labour in a post-industrial society.
