Introduction. Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) is the liver enzyme with the closest association with liver fat accumlation and consequently has been used as a circulating market of non-alcholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This study examined the prevalance of elevated ALT in apparently health children and adolescents from Wales, UK and subsequently assessed the assocation of ALT with physical fitness.
