Crynodeb
The second stage of a project to develop a tool for assistive musical
improvisation is described. Building on the findings from preliminary participatory
workshops with a group of adult learners with mobility issues, a pattern
based musical-model is defined. Employing a synchronised pattern-based approach to music generation a prototype ‘instrument’ has been realised that
brings together key assistive and musical features that were identified as desirable.
Using an example combination of joystick and force-sensor controls, the
system offers the performer a combination of rule and skill-based performance
behaviours to maintain both a sense of ownership and control.
