    Crynodeb

This chapter attempts to examine how the evolution of smart grids affects the three main energy security goals of the EU, supply security, affordability and sustainability. While it finds that the deployment of smart grids has the potential to substantially strengthen all of them, it locates a number of issues that call for the policy-makers' attention in order to avoid mishaps and maximise the utility emanating from the transition in power markets. In doing so, it focuses on the regulatory gaps and the need for robust regulation that will guide the energy transition.
