Crynodeb

This article suggest how the BBC Wales' Coal House (2007), as historical docu-drama, is better understood as a manifestation of 'landscape television', due to its inherent embrace of the Welsh landscape. As such, Coal House sits amid any consideration of the cultural reproduction of the 'Welsh Heartland'. Also, due to the series' focus upon forms of working-class masculinity and the experience of childhood poverty, this article insists that this is 'epic art' as 'ordinary television'.
