Crynodeb
This paper contributes to the total quality management (TQM) literature by focusing on the mediating role of individual commitment to change (ICC) as opposed to advancing
propositions about direct influence of organisational culture (OC) on TQM implementation. From the existing literature, a preliminary framework and a series of hypotheses of ICCTQM-OC
relationships were developed. Although the research design involves two stages, only the outcomes of the first exploratory stage, which has been completed, presented in this paper. The exploratory stage took the form of 16 in-depth interviews with academics and managers in Algerian manufacturing organisations. The findings of in-depth interviews highlighted the need to focus on one component of the three ICC components namely individual affective commitment to charge. Thus, the preliminary framework has been amended by removing the other two variables of ICC (normative and continuance commitment). Consequently, few initial sub-hypotheses related to the latter variables were deleted.
