Disgrifiad

I have established an exciting working relationship with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) which is seeing them deliver sessions to our Primary Studies with QTS student teachers.

6 HMRC employees delivered a whole-cohort lecture to our Year 2 students on Tuesday 31 October 2017 and delivered the same session to our Year 3 cohort on Wednesday 21 March 2018.

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) have developed Tax Facts and Junior Tax Facts schemes. This scheme, a resource even, evolved from Tax Matters, a programme introduced back in 2014. This change [new scheme/ resource] has seen huge results in terms of educating both primary and secondary students in the areas of financial literacy, taxation, etc. Currently, around 5,000 schools, across the United Kingdom (UK), have engaged with nearly half a million students taking part. As well, HMRC have now established over 420 UK-wide 'Tax Facts Ambassadors'; colleagues working in education [schools] who contribute towards the development and delivery. Interestingly, this sits under the employee volunteering programme, with colleagues earning up to 3 days (per year) extra annual leave.

I have been collaborating with Emma McQuiston, a Corporate Communications Sustainability Adviser, and Fay Dwyer, a Personal Taxation Team Leader, both working for HM Revenue & Customs.

The plan going forward is that HMRC will return, annually, to continue to deliver these sessions and work with us to develop existing and new programmes/ resources to enhance pedagogy around financial literacy, profit/ loss, taxation, etc in schools throughout the UK.

On November 11th 2017, I was interviewed on BBC Radio Wales (Jason Mohammad Show) about the above endeavor and the wider implications on children’s education.
